Wheel pair balancing techniques

Balancing rotors in one and two correction planes. The number of balancing planes is determined based on the design features of the rotor of the balanced machine. Balancing in one plane ("static") is usually performed for narrow disc-shaped rotors without significant axial runout. Typical examples of rotors in this class are:

Narrow grinding wheels

Belt pulleys

Disc flywheels

Gear wheels

Clamping chucks of lathes

Narrow fans, etc.

Two-plane balancing ("dynamic") is carried out for long (shaft-shaped) two-bearing rotors. Typical examples of rotors in this class are:

Rotors of electric motors and generators

Rotors of compressors and pumps

Impellers of turbines and fans

Wide grinding wheels

Spindles

Shafts of flour mills, etc.

The process of balancing a rotor using the Balanset-1A device from Vibromera includes several key stages, from equipment preparation to corrective weight installation.

Equipment preparation

Install vibration sensors perpendicular to the rotor's axis of rotation. Attach the laser tachometer to a magnetic stand, directing it towards the reflective tape attached to the pulley. Connect the sensors to the device and connect the device to a laptop via USB. Start the Balanset software, selecting the two-plane balancing mode.

Initial vibration measurement

Prior to balancing, hang a test weight and record its weight and installation radius. Start the rotor and measure the initial vibration level to determine the amplitude and phase of the initial imbalance.

Balancing in the first plane

Place the test weight in the first balancing plane corresponding to the first sensor's location. Start the rotor to measure the vibration level. It's important that the amplitude or phase changes by at least 20%, indicating partial imbalance correction.

Balancing in the second plane

Move the test weight to the second plane (where the second sensor is installed), restart the rotor, and take measurements. These data help the program calculate the precise position and weight of corrective weights.

Imbalance correction

Based on the data obtained, the Balanset program will suggest corrective weights and their installation angles for both planes. Remove the test weight, prepare the corrective weights as per the program's recommendations, and install them at the required angle in the rotor's rotation direction from the initial test weight position.

Verification and completion of balancing

Run the rotor for a final balancing check. If the vibration has decreased to an acceptable level, the process is complete. If additional correction is needed, the program will indicate where and how much more weight to install.

Balancing is performed on technically sound mechanisms securely mounted in their designated positions. Prior to balancing, the mechanism should be repaired if necessary, installed in proper bearings, and secured. The rotor should be cleaned of contaminants hindering the balancing process.

Before measurements, select sensor placement locations and install them as recommended. Prior to balancing, it is recommended to measure in vibrometer mode.

If the total vibration magnitude roughly matches the rotational component, the primary contribution to the mechanism's vibration is assumed to be rotor imbalance. If the total vibration significantly exceeds the rotational component, a thorough inspection of the mechanism is recommended.

Before balancing using the device, ensure there is no significant static imbalance. For horizontally oriented axis rotors, manually rotate the rotor by 90 degrees. If the rotor is statically unbalanced, it will move to the equilibrium position. Install a balance weight at the upper point in the middle of the rotor length to keep the rotor stationary in any position. This preliminary balancing helps reduce vibration during initial starts of highly unbalanced rotors.
